The Colliding Events of School~

It seemed to be raucous in the cafeteria. Food flinging everywhere from table to table, well I lied. There were two tables across in the distance that seemed to be flinging food at each other comically. Another table had people who were arguing, another with people listening to music. Here I was sitting alone. I had a pen in my hand and paper in front of me. Soon, I found something in my head worth while to put onto paper and began writing. I am a poet, and so as I began to form the words carefully with the strokes, I felt another presence upon me. I only ignored it since it did not have malicious intent. Saying nothing, and remaining quiet and to myself, I continued on with this poem.

I sighed as I walked into the noisy cafeteria. Like usual it was filled and it seemed like there were no seats left. After a few moments of scooping the room I found a table with only on girl sitting at it. I jumped on the chance and walked over to the table.
"Can I sit here?" I asked the girl, once I had gotten across the room.

Upon hearing her voice ask if she could take a seat, I looked up immediately and nodded a simple yes. My pen stopped for a moment to soak in who had asked me to sit down and I smiled faintly at her appearance as she took the seat. After this whole transaction, I did not mutter a word.

I sat down after she nodded and smiled triumphantly. "Thanks, for letting me sit here". "I'm Evaline, and you are?"

"No problem. I'm Utena. Nice to meet you, Evaline."

Upon saying that, I smiled more directly as our eyes continued to look into the others. I broke the gaze we had fixated on the other to glance down at my poem and see the small progress I had made.

I glanced over the table, "what'cha working on?" I asked Utena.

I looked up again and blinked.

"What? Oh this? It's just a silly poem I'm working on that's all. It's not done."That I seemed to say with much indifference and a sigh as I was slightly tired.

"Sure, I've completed stanza 1, now I just have to do 2 more and I'll be done."

My pen would start its strokes again against the paper making marks of words and punctuation. The goal of the ink to complete the poem with unimaginable detail and unmatchable creativity. The pen was only the guidance of some of the many thoughts flowing fluidly through my mind.

I sat back letting my new found friend go to work. After a few minutes of just sitting there and waiting, I decided to occupy my time with other peoples drama. I swiviled in my seat and watched a group of girls gossip and giggle.

Without even picking up my head from my work I seemed to speak to Evaline whom was twisting about in her seat.

"What? Rather, who do you think they're talking about? I usually have very acute hearing but you can never tell with those girls."A small chuckle was heard from me and then silence allowing Evaline to respond.

"Judging the fact that they look like they are probably shallow...Boy's, the bitch who got in the way when they where walking in the hallways, or both." I sighed and rolled my eyes at them, but continued to attempt to hear them.

Bryant walks into the cafeteria and sits in a corner feasting on a large pile of bread. While he is eating, he looks around at the rukus and smiles when people have to drop out of the turmoil due to different reasons.

Again without picking my head up I spoke to Evaline again. This conversation was beginning to make a start of some sort of agreement. I had hoped it would be a friendship. However, did she know what kind of school this was?

"Hm, that's a good guess. I love to mess with them sometimes, even though they do nothing to me. They know they'll go down in a second. Not only can I make them look bad in front of anyone and everyone, but I can cut them up if you will in many different ways."

Though by her nonchalant attitude around me, I was sure she didn't know what kind of school this was. It wasn't something so obvious to identify, but it was something that was always true and there. If you look past the facades and disguises of society, you may find what you are looking for. Lately, I'd been having this extra sense, that let me know if a person was near. It was almost as if I could feel their life force, their pulse beating, the quickened pace or the slowed one. And that is how I would know of their intent or status at the moment. When the boy entered the panic stricken cafeteria, I sensed him straight away. However, his intent showed he was calm and had no dreams of ever harming me or my new friend Evaline. It was weird, I wasn't psychic, so how was I able to feel these sorts of things? True, this school was for the gifted in many things but I was only a skilled swordsman. I wonder what the future holds in potential for all these people..

I yawned and turned back in my seat and rested my head on my arms that I had folded in front of me on the table top. "Why would you ever want to make those people look bad?" I asked her in a sarcastic tone adding a small laugh after that.

Finally looking up to face Evaline, I responded. Even though I knew she was being sarcastic, I responded seriously. However at the sarcasm, I did acknowledge it with a smile.

"Well no, I would make them look bad. I know they can be superficial sometimes and they like to make me look bad as well but revenge isn't right, it's not noble. However protection is, and that is what I do, I protect. Not only myself but others as well. But don't think I couldn't get witty and tear them down either. Say, Evaline, do you know what kind of a school this is?"

That I asked in complete curiosity to see if she did know in fact. I was almost done with my poem, but that didn't mean I couldn't have a conversation while working on it. We did have plenty of time anyway.

I closed my eyes listening to Utena, still resting me head on my arms. "...Say, Evaline, do you know what kind of school this is?" she asked me. I was taken back by her odd question but didn't show any surprise on my face. I simply shrugged and said, "A typical high school?"

A smile never left upon my face as she said that answer. That was my reaction to her question of uncertainty. I shook my head slightly and seemed to explain to her the reason of her incorrect guess.

"This is a gifted school. It's for the higher classed in skill of their particular element or at least that's what we're told. It's a "special" school."

I would let that soak in for a moment before she would respond and then I would have an answer to whatever response she gave.

I couldn't believe my ears. I had known I was different, but other people to? Hell a whole school of em, I couldn't or wouldn't believe it.

I sat up straight and burst into laughter, laughter that had no amusement or humor behind it. "Okay there crazy lady."

My blue eyes met hers and the emotion in them told my friend here I was serious. I was not joking and it was not a lie, I would never lie. It is not noble too, and besides that I like the honest truth. But I continued on with blatant sincerity in my voice hoping she would believe me.

"It's true. Sometimes I even wonder how I got into this school much less some of the other people. But those girls over there, some of them are psychics, and some of them are shape-shifters. The head of them all, she's a witch. And not only that, but she is one of the strongest here. Everyone else to her is weak. I know them, they might talk funny but they won't harm you."

I smiled and waited again for another response from Evaline. I had hoped I wasn't psyching her out too much.

I snorted, "She's the strongest here!?" I laughed at the thought. "I know I'm definitely not the strongest, but please, Malibu barbie over there?"

"You're funny. But unfortunately it is so. I could beat her in a fight but I know that she'll end up winning in the end... that's why I sit alone. I'm not part of any group really. I suppose I am the only really good student of my own kind, if you will. But I don't mind that one bit. I just wish that as you so eloquently put it, "Malibu barbie" over there would lighten up and use her powers for good."

I shrugged and turned my attention down to the paper for a moment more and then spoke without making eye contact with Evaline in a casual way.

"Maybe she just needs someone to beat her, you know show her what respect is all about."

I laughed, " she does need someone to teach her what respect is..." I shrugged and went back to my resting position. "We should find someone to do that."
