The Amnesia Condition~ [Private: Mero and Utena]

And there I was, in this battle, head to head with this evil monster. I swore to my kingdom that I'd defend it, even if it cost my life. By this time, I had become more than just a prince. I'd become king. The recent king, my adopted father, had died, the queen with him, of this disease they'd caught in their old age. Damascus, moved on and went elsewhere, though we still keep in touch. I'd heard he'd become an archduke of some other kingdom, which was all well and good for him.

The monster right! I concentrated one of my most powerful spells to take it down. It turns out the monster was watching me, and plotting something as well. And with a loud cry from me, firing the monstrous beam from my hands, and with a bellowing roar from him, the monster was vanquished, but not without one last stand. As he was being killed by the power, his whole body thrashed about, and his arm came from what seemed like nowhere. I must have been standing too close to him and he whacked me, quite hard. I flew through several sheetrock walls and even through a tree, till I landed over by the mountains in the distance. I opened my eyes and saw that I was okay, minus a few cuts and bruises. I smiled, thank you for magical powers! And then, when I went to move, a quite moderately sized rock hit me on the head and rolled away from me, leaving me unconscious right there, left to be found by anyone....

I had been wandering the lands, training and exploring. Recently I had come upon a larger forest that was filled with different kinds of monsters and foes. It had been a long time since I had come face to face with another human, and this made me feel like some sort of hermit.

I continued walking, my pace slow. Suddenly my ears picked up what sounded like a battle. I began picking up speed as I headed towards the noise. A monstrous roar could be heard and it sounded like whatever was battling the monster, was winning. Then there was sudden cracks, as if trees were breaking. The monsters voice died out and nothing else could be heard. Had the challenger been flung?

I cames upon a path of broken trees and I followed it to an unconscious person. As I got closer I noticed the stranger wasn't really a stranger at all. "Utena!" I exclaimed as I knelt down beside her. So this is who was picking a fight with a monster.

She looked in bad shape. Her head was bruised and I could tell from the rock laying around her that one had fallen on her head. She was also badly cut up from flying through the trees. "Idiot" I cursed.

I pulled off the bag that was strapped to my back and began bandaging and cleaning her wounds.

Within the next few minutes that she was fixing me up and perhaps just about done, I started to come to. My vision, at first, when my eyes fluttered open, was a bit blurry. Almost like the focus of a camera set up way too high. Then I blinked a few times and sat up in a more comfortable position. I was able to see again. I held my head, feeling the impacts of the rock still, slightly. I groaned as I sat up, feeling a little in pain. I asked myself, out loud, not aware yet that someone was with me.

"Did... something happen? Why ... am I here? What is this place? And why am I hurt?"

I blinked and then saw another person. I looked at her for a moment and stared at her strangely. She was another human, that I'd recognized, which wasn't the weird part. The weirder part was that she was acting as if she knew me and bandaging my wounds, saying things to me I could faintly hear like "idiot". I blinked and then cleared my throat and spoke up, weirdly, but politely.

"Um, might I ask... what happened? Did I get hurt or something?"

I watched her bandage me up, thinking she might know something as to what happened.

I looked quickly to her face as she began moving and making noise. "Ah, You're awake. Don't talk, you got hurt pretty bad going up against what I assume was a large opponent. Try not to move either".

I sat back after I finished bandaging her up. Her questions confused me slightly, it appeared as if she couldn't remember what had happened to her but I just played it off as a moment of memory loss due to the head injury.

"Why where you out here in the first place Utena?"

That was when my eyes went wide. I was so confused. She seemed to have known me, and I had to admit, she did seem vaguely familiar, but maybe that was because she was kind. But apart from that, she was a total stranger. A total kind stranger I don't remember meeting before in my life ever? I pulled away rather quickly and cringed.

"Ow. ...Wait... how... how do you know my name? Do... I... know you from somewhere?... do you know me? Who, are you?"

I blinked. I took the pain from moving so suddenly. Who was this girl?

I laughed unbelieving to what she was saying. "Whats wrong with you, did that bump really rattle that brain of yours? Of course I know you, we're best friends. Now stop moving you'll only make the damage worse".

I still shifted away from her, a little weirded out by what she was saying.

"No... If you were my best friend, I'd remember you wouldn't I?"

I took a moment to think.

"No... I don't... I don't know you. You're not my best friend. Who are you?"

I raised my eyebrows, "You're kidding me right? We've been friends for years, how can you not remember me?" I sighed and shook my head. " That bonk on your head must have been worse then I judged".

"Look, I don't mean to be rude or mean or whatever, but I really don't remember you. What's your name?"

I smiled.

"Since you already seem to know mine somehow."

I stuck out my hand, "Mero Imaimashi, though you can just call me Mero". I was utterly shocked that she didn't remember me, and I was sure you could tell by the look on my face. "This is troublesome" I muttered.

I looked at her. She looked like something was wrong. Gently, I took her hand and smiled.

"Pleasure to meet you Mero."

And then my head cocked to the side in confusion.

"What's the matter? You look like something's bothering you."

"Is it that obvious?" I joked, knowing it was. "We've been friends for years, and its just a bummer that you don't remember. You and me have been through a whole lot of stuff". I frowned then took a moment to collect myself.

"I wonder what else you have forgotten?"

"Hey... well, I don't remember you, but if you keep saying it that sincerely, it must be true. I've decided to trust you, stranger named Mero."

I giggled, that sounded funny to say. I blinked though and thought a moment trying to remember something. And when I couldn't, I turned to Mero, and voiced it curiously.

"Hey if you really know me like you say you know me, then mind answering a question for me?"

I took a pause and then thought about how to phrase the question right. Then, it just blurted out.

"Uh, how old am I exactly?"

"You're 15 now, almost 16" I answered.

"15, almost 16. Hm."

I looked to my body and studied it over and touched my clothing, examining things. I wanted to see if I recognized myself as a normal teenager, which I did.

"Hm, seems right to me. I feel like a teenager, I feel young and resilient, and like my wounds are beginning to slowly regenerate. That's good, you always heal fast when you're young, they say. I think."

I laughed weirdly to myself before I stopped and thought for another moment. I didn't know what I was thinking about, perhaps these small little time stops were a way for me to try and regain my lost memories, which I wasn't aware I lost in the first place. It was curious though. I turned to Mero and smiled, then standing up and still cringing a bit from my injuries.

"So, how long have we known each other Mero?"

I chuckled, wondering if she knew there were other factors helping her heal. "Well I can't really put a number on it, but we met when we were kids so I would say at least 5 or more years".

"That's quite a long time. ... What do you trust me with, Mero?"

I asked curiously, looked down at the ground. I felt like I was trying to play 20 questions just to get an answer out of her. For what? I don't know. But, for some reason, I just felt the need to know more about, almost like I wanted to know more about her, almost as if she were some important to me. And I felt a pang in my heart agree with me. But, no matter how much my heart cried and wanted to believe Mero, I just couldn't. My brain couldn't remember a thing.

"Well" I paused then smiled, "I trust you with my life Utena". I was concerned she wasn't believing me. The way she asked her questions only confirmed my suspicions. "I know you don't trust me, and thats okay. But You do need someone to help you until you've healed".

"Yes, you're right, I do."

I smiled.

"And I do trust you Mero. I don't trust you with my life. I don't trust you with many things, seeing as how I've just met you. And my brain, it doesn't register your face, your presence, anything. You're not my best friend. And I clearly don't retain any of our memories you claim you hold so dear. But, I can tell you one thing."

I paused and looked up towards the sky. It was one of those dramatic and yet still grand moments where even something so tragic and sad that's happened, like a best friend forgetting everything about her best friend who's been with her forever, can make it seem like everything is going to be okay.

"It's that I trust you with this. If you say you know me well and that you want to help me get better, then I believe you. If you say we were best friends, I don't know why, but I believe you. I guess it's because my brain... I can't remember at all, but my heart seems to cry out for you. There's a pang in it that I just can't seem to ignore that you give me. And, also..."

Then I redirected my attention back at her and smiled, my cotton candy blue eyes making contact with hers, having a slightly more empty stare in them.

"You're still here aren't you? So, why shouldn't I trust you?"

I smiled and started to walk past her and down the path. After a few steps or so, I stopped in my tracks and then turned around with a confused face.

"I'm sorry... but, which way do I live?"

I rubbed the back of my head awkwardly. ^^''

I had never felt so hurt in my entire life. To her someone who had been with you through so many things proclaim she only trusted you for the pure fact that you remained beside her still was ludicrous. I felt angry, but I knew it was not her fault.

She hadn't chose this path willingly, it happened by fate. I lowered my eyes so they were staring at the ground. I wasn't sure how I felt about helping her, now that it really meant nothing. But for our past friendship I decided that I would suck up any pride I had and push hard to help her.

"I'm not a hundred percent sure where you live from here. We would have to exit the forest before I could tell you.... but you aren't in the best shape to travel".

"I don't mind sitting here and talking a while if you really wanna do that. But, I should really get home. Besides all these bruises and things, I'm in perfect shape to walk. I promise you, I feel fine."

I smiled and giggled to myself, approaching her again. But now she seemed to have a hurt face, not the same slightly giddy one she just had before. I walked up to her and looked at her curiously again.

"Um, is everything alright?"

And then it hit me.

"Wait... I did that, didn't I? ... I hurt you just now, right?"

I chuckled, "No you did not, I was just thinking about something". I hide any emotion that would sabotage my lie. I didn't need her feeling bad, she was already in a confused state.

"We better get going then, I doubt it'll be a short walk".

"Hey wait, your said your last name was Imaimashi right?"

I took a pause and then started to say something as we began walking together.

"That means you're like the CEO or something of that big company in Nagasaki right? Imaimashi Corporations? Hmmm, wow, well apparently, I was the best friend of someone who ran a company. And I bet, it's a pretty awesome company too."

I was back to smiling and nodding, and being all happy that someone at least was here to help me. And hey, at least I didn't hurt her. I didn't think I did. I didn't want to do anything like that. So, if I didn't hurt her, and she was a total and complete stranger to me, why did I still keep feeling this pang in my heart that yearned for her... for her friendship? I shook it off and continued walking with her. A moment of silence passed before...

"So tell me things about yourself."

"Awesome wouldn't exactly be the word I would use, but yeah it's nice running a company. Good money". I paused to think when she asked me about myself. "Well you already know I run a company. I'm also a trained shooter and swordsman as well as a trained fighter in various fighting styles. I think money and food and thats all there really is to it". I smiled at her.

"Well still. I think that's cool. A trained shooter and basic weapons master. You probably know how to fight too, I'm sure. And hm, the company things seems well off as well. You're all set aren't you?"

I smiled and then put my finger to my lips again, thinking about something, then voicing it. It's as if this whole "accident" I couldn't remember, put my thoughts for a spin as well.

"So um, have we been on any crazy adventures?"
