There I was. Standing at the top of the dueling arena in the obscure forest that existed just outside the academy I attended as a student, not long ago. I stood there, recollecting the memories I'd had here. Endless duels and encounters of the third kind. I'd had some action and adventure, mystery, drama, heartbreak and in some hints, romance. However, it was the present and there was no going back now. I sighed, touching the hilt of my sword in my sheath. My thoughts roamed.

"So even after everything and Anthy's disappearance, I did get to keep the Sword of Dios after all. It's a nice thing to have a sword to stay with you at all times. Not only does this sword serve a good purpose for being my partner during fights, but, it's also a good reminder of the home of my heart. It contains all the events which have led up to where I am today. Hehehe, never would I have though I would ever come this far..."

I sighed again, thinking. I felt a presence behind me, unsure who it was at the moment. As of recently, I'd remembered that it'd taken every last ounce of power I had within me to save Anthy from her undeniable fate as the Rose Bride. Either way, she was going to be a sacrifice and die at the hands of victory or failure for a lost cause. I couldn't let that happen. Her role and the cyclic life she had would be broken by my hands, even if it meant I had to disappear myself.

"Yeah, I remember now. I remember that I lost the final battle but I still had the chance. I was pushing and pulling and pushing and pulling but the gate wasn't opening. The Rose Gate and its protective thorns had cut me deep and my hands were all stained and bloody, but I wasn't going to give up. I knew I could do it too, I had this power and I had this wave of determination surge over me. I wasn't going to give up, I couldn't. I wanted to save Anthy. Less did I think I'd actually be able to do it. But, I did. I remember what it was I did now.... I gave up my magic, my powers, everything that made me the slightest bit supernatural or even closer to immortality that I was and become completely human again. So... this is what it feels like again to be a mortal..."

I looked down at my hands and sighed. Clenching them lightly and closing my eyes, I smiled. The wind blew calmly as I remained there, looking out over the edge of the arena and into the fog that surrounded it on the sides. I felt two presences now. One seemed vaguely familiar, as if I'd known this presence for a while. The other, felt unfamiliar, some strange intruder perhaps? Well, whatever was going on, I was curious. I stayed where I was but remained on guard. Who was here?

a patch of clear in the fog revealed myself walking through the forest right to her as if i knew where she was but that was impossible becuase i had never been there. i would walk around trees and through any other obstacle keeping in a more or less straight line as i followed her scent.

i reveled in the richness this place seemed to have and wondered mildly if the students could be potential meals or maybe a teacher... the fog covered me again but soon i jumped up and landed lightly on the platform behind her. you are one tough girl to track you know that?

I turned around.

"Oh, it's just you Bryant. I was afraid an intruder had come up here and was plotting to... nevermind."

I smiled and thought a moment more.

"So what are you doing here anyway?"

OOC: Tell me in OOC why my blood is hard to track.

I smiled softly and turned away from him, looking down into the fathoms of fog in the depths below. My blue eyes had stains of recollection as memories flooded back to my head, playing in small, short films only meant for my eyes alone. My lips that swerved into a smile were coated with the slightest twinge of pain and it seemed my body was stagnant, just like the air, not moving except for when the winds blew by. It was then I answered him.

"Well, technically, if you want to make logical sense of this, we're in Japan. But, to be honest with you, this place is so raised above the everyday life that people live and fight through that I don't even know if you can consider us in Japan anymore." I spoke and thought for a moment more on how to put it. It wasn't easy to explain.

"I don't know if that made any sense, but this is a real place to those who can find and enter here. You obviously have something about you that permits you to enter this area or to at least be standing here, talking to me without vanishing. This is the area known as the dueling arena forest and it was where students of Ohtori Academy used to battle it out in duels for whatever reason they had. Either they were two best friends fighting over the same girl, or two enemies that hated each other's guts, this always served as the proper place to be when you wanted to do something like that. Of course they did it when no one was around here. But, it's also the place where..." Another pause and then I gazed at my ring. The ring barely was shining and its color may have become slightly faded through the years. Nonetheless, I smiled softly.

"This place is also where the Student Council and a certain girl fought out the duels for the Rose Bride. This girl named Anthy Himemiya. It's where countless battles took place, from the regular ones of opposition of the Student Council with their motives to the Black Rose district arising to cater to the darkness of peoples' hearts. It's all been done here and I guess now that that's over, this place has been filled with fog. I don't think, whoever set this fog, would want any person to know what happened here or what this place really is so they enshrouded it in mystery and left it up to the person who's actually allowed in here's mind to make up some story or another, that is, if they're imaginative in any way. Though there is one structure here I don't think you saw on your way here that is just above our heads..."

I knew I was talking a lot but he asked and it was a lot to explain. I'd hoped he'd ask me more questions so I wouldn't have to keep all this to myself. I mean Bryant was my friend and sometimes, I don't like keeping things from him. That's why I don't mind telling him. I mean, everything's all said and done right? What's the harm of telling him?

"But you have to share something with me first before I tell you or you ask about any more. Bryant, if you had to duel, challenge the victor of duels for whatever reason, what would you duel for? What would be your motive?"

I stayed where I was, listening intently for his answer. This place was a place where unfinished business laid. I could sense it. I could feel it in the air that something was just not right about this place and its atmosphere. Sure, it was always a strange feeling to come into the arena but this was something different...

to enjoy the the thrill of the fight... but if i had a purpose it would be for that purpose... purpose being someone was kidnapped or something was stolen from someone.

This was all just too strange. I would figure out what this uneasiness in me was and why it was echoing so soundly through my soul. But, then again, that was also a mystery, just as similar to the fog my eyes laid sight upon.

are you asking to duel me? i looked at her curious forgetting she was hoping to be a prince as i often did. in a duel i would have to seal my powers away to make it somewhat fair... hesitation a warrior's worst enemy.

"I'm not asking to duel you. I'm asking if you feel like dueling me right now. There's this presence hanging in the air, I can't really describe it. I just feel like something's going to happen."

I stood there, looking at the rose signet on my finger. I smiled sincerely, looking at it as if it were the only thing that mattered to me. It was one of the most important things to me, but, even so, I'd lost a lot just by accomplishing what I set out to accomplish in the first place. I set Himemiya free, I revolutionized the world somehow and used the power I had to become prince. Yet, I'm mortal, I've no idea where Anthy's disappeared to and I'm lingering here as if there's some unfinished business I've yet to attend to. I can't tell anymore... is she the one who has disappeared, or... have I?

"So Bryant, are you challenging me?"

"This is very strange."

I blinked and touched my ring once more with my other hand before letting my other hand go and each of my arms fall back to my sides. This was certainly a weird feeling and an even weirder place to be feeling it in. I didn't think I could make full sense of it myself, which didn't help either one of us.

"I don't know. There's just something else.. I know you're a friend, but I felt that battle intention resonating from you. Though it may not be you, it's around here somewhere."

'Could this be the consequence for setting Anthy free?'

I stood there, waiting for anything to happen. Anything to clarify this weird feeling sifting in the air. I needed justification, without my powers, I knew truly what fear felt like and I was feeling it even more now without the confidence of my magic to fall back on...

OOC: By the way, this is just a separate story plot I'm doing, this doesn't pertain to any of the other stuff we've got going on.

BIC: Utena... do you know how old you are? i asked to see if i was in a different point in time and she simply hadnt met me yet or i was losing my mind... or we were both fine but there was a power at work that clouded our senses to prevent us from sensing what was out there. or in here...

i see... alrighty lets see if i can jog your memory with a duel. first to say uncle loses no lethal shots. i pulled a simple double edged sword out it was small and knifelike with the blade as wide as the hilt and it was as long as his arm. it was perfectly balanced and forged using the folding method. he holds it in one hand and inhales to clear his mind.

"I knew it. You wanted a duel. I knew there was something that hung in the air about you. So I was right. Well, that is not how things are settled here at the dueling forest arena. We don't make our own rules, we follow that which has already been established."

I said that with no emotion, remembering Touga saying those words to me before he disappeared. I knew he graduated but I don't know which school he chose to attend or which line of work he wanted to work in. It seemed our lives had drawn apart from one another drastically. To be honest, I kinda missed being around my friends in the Student Council. He actually did care for me. Nonetheless, I seemed to look around. Where was the Sword of Dios if it wasn't on the side of my belt hanging in its sheath?

"Well, in the meantime that I find a sword to fight with, I'll explain the rules to you Bryant. Each one of us wears a rose on our chests of a different color. Mine is white and yours can be whichever color you like for now. Anyway, if one doesn't have a weapon at the beginning of the duel they're not allowed to fight and automatically forfeit. If they do have a weapon, the duel begins and they fight. The person who loses their rose first loses the duel. In other words, if I used my sword to cut at your rose and I slashed it off your body, I would be the victor. I think I have that right, I don't remember all the words Anthy told me. Sometimes remembering things can be so hard. ^^'' But, do you understand?"

I was trying to be as nice as possible about it. I was a bit cautious of him because I didn't know his style or how he was going to sword fight me once I did get the possession of my weapon in my hands. The fog just seemed to thicken and the sky around us turned, ever more, to a blacker shade of night than ever before. The stars twinkled in sync with one another, at different points as if it were planned that way. I continued to look when another figure began to emerge from the fog. Who would this be?

'There it is again. This strange feeling. But this one isn't an uneasy haunting feeling. This one is more of a warm and relaxing feeling. For an ominous figure coming through the fog like that, this is a weird feeling to have. I wonder why I could be feeling this and why I am feeling anything at all... I am mortal, after all.'

"I don't think it's odd. It's how I came to have the power of revolution in the first place, and it's how I set Anthy free and came to be as I was and as I am now."

I had to admit, this did still feel a bit strange. Was he not my opponent but someone else? I needed to solve out who this uneasy feeling was resonating from. And I could almost be certain now it was not Bryant.

"Well I don't know either. I was just told that I had the power to revolutionize the world. I guess that they meant change it in some way. But, throughout all that time I had that power, I was deciding what to do with it. Each day it grew more scary that this power I possessed was so great it could change the entire world. I could have virtually anything I wanted and I was having trouble making up my mind. I did not want to cause some sort of big change that could lead to anything bad happening but then again, I wanted to cause something good to happen as well. At first I was going to use it to become a real prince. But, I suppose I already had that opportunity and in the end I chose to do something else with that power, that was to set Anthy free. She only deserves it."

I sighed, ever so pensively. I just couldn't figure this out.

"Anthy's disappeared, or maybe I have. Who knows, but this power of revolution belonged to me because Anthy was mine. I was the one said to hold this power, I had the power of Dios on my side too. Well, at least I got a sword out of it."

I smiled. But within the lips that curved so gleefully hung the tints of pain.

but you miss her now... and that power... dont you? i asked seeing the pain and was very confused. i may not be able to discover that power but i think her choice was the right one in the long run... after all absolute power corrupts absolutely.

"Of course I miss her. She was my best friend, my bride, if you go according to the titles given to her by the student council and everyone. But, she... she was special to me."

I smiled softly through the silent pain. It was a rather hard subject for me to deal with and further more talk about but I was dealing with it. I knew that I'd grown as far as the fact I was able to keep a lid on my emotions and smile through them. I was becoming stronger, and that was something I was at least proud of.

"This power, it's hard to explain. It was aside from the magical gifts I was granted, it was just this power to cause a major change in the world. You could do whatever you wished to, so having this power was very important and crucial that it doesn't fall into the wrong hands, as you can see. At first, I was going to use that power to become a real prince, but, Anthy deserved to be free. So I used the power to set her free and then my powers vanished and I became mortal. The sword remained with me though and Anthy, I don't know where she went."

I sighed. It was definitely difficult to explain. But, I was trying and I kept thinking of what just happened, what seemed like a minute ago. But he did have my emotions right, I was a bit pained by all of this.

then perhaps a duel would help to clear your mind... i muttered thinking out loud a first for me but it was a bit better than guessing if she could hear me or not. Prince Utena, I accept your challenge to duel. a bad idea on my part but if the idea was to avoid getting your rose cut it would be easy. i watched her clamly hoping that one day her pain would leave her and her dreams could become reality.

"I may be mortal, Bryant, but even I can pick up on the fact you think I'm hurt. To be completely truthful with you, over this, I am still a bit. But, I am not so deeply pained that it has torn my heart to pieces forever. Like I said I'll heal, there's no need to worry about me, okay?"

I smiled, this time, sincerely at him and held the Sword of Dios in my hands. The small batch of sunlight we had shining through from the sky, or whatever was visible of it, was shining on the hilt of my sword. I raised it to look at it loosely, and smiled, admiring its beauty. This was not only my weapon but my partner, an extension of my body to help me protect Anthy and everything sacred to me, should ever a challenge come my way. I then sheathed it and looked back at him.

"I never challenged you to a duel, Bryant. If anything, you challenged me. It seems foolish to do since the rose bride isn't here, since ...Anthy isn't here and the dueling game is over. But, I wouldn't mind having a duel with you for fun. I doubt it'd affect anything anyway. The question is, do you want to duel me?"

if i understand the rules right... all you have to do is cut my rose... since i cant really use my speed in this castle thing... you have a fair advantage. my total demeanor changed. i became more regal and my pose shifted to one reflecting a king. i cast my powers off temporarily to further even the match and instantly was reduced to a mere human or rather a being as strong as a well trained master who was human.

i let my age and experience flow within, channeling into the sword. just from the touch of my hand and the new sharp look in my eye she could tell i was now prepared to duel. my hand was relaxed holding the hilt of 'blood biter', the name of the blade which was inscribed upon the guard, but my movements were fluid as water and smooth as a crystal lake under the serene light of a full moon. after the half minute of practice i looked at her for the begining signal.

I spotted a rose on the ground a little of the ways from where I was standing. I was perplexed it was there. How it got there and where it came from was still a mystery. I shrugged and walked over to pick it up in my hands, holding it gently. Its color was a deep deep indigo, so deep it almost void of any representation altogether.

"This is your rose. And the white one, is mine. If I cut the rose from your breast first, I win. If you cut the rose from my breast first you win. This is just a duel for fun but if it had been one of the duels in the series of the game of duels, the process that just ended, you'd be in possession of Anthy, the rose bride. However, she's been set free... I did the right thing.. I did the right thing..."

I stood back and explained that to him with a stern tone of voice, seeing his demeanor change, I knew he wasn't playing around. But, the last part I mumbled. It was meant to be a private thought that I would only say to myself. I was trying to reassure myself that I did do the right thing in the end. I was sure I did, but then again I was trusting my own morals, so, how was I supposed to tell? Either way, I unsheathed my sword again and got ready for combat.

"Are you ready?"
